Abstract
The quality control system for export-oriented products in Taiwan is under the jurisdiction of the Bureau of Commodity Inspection and Quarantine (BCIQ). This Bureau is a certificate-issuing body with the authority to prohibit the export of unqualified products. To help in further improving the quality control of export-oriented products the Bureau has initiated the Industrial Quality Control Programme where manufacturers are given incentives to set up their own quality systems. Payment of inspection fees to BCIQ depends on the quality control system practised by the manufacturers which are approved by the BCIQ. Manufacturers with good quality control systems pay lesser fees for BCIQ inspection than those without. Inspection frequency of finished products are also less for those with approved quality control systems.
