Abstract

A rice growth model was adapted to simulate the effect of stem borer damage on grain yield of rice variety IR64. Computer simulation demonstrated that damage caused by killing up to 20 percent of the tillers at the vegetative stage caused on significant effect on grain yield while yield loss was almost proportional to damage at the grain filling stage. Simulated results correlated well with observed grain yield of field plots damaged by clipping tillers. The relative effect of stem borer damage on grain yield at low nitrogen supply and at low radiation is larger.
