An estimate of the profit and loss of long bean and cucumber farming for 1985-1987 was done based on farm gate prices and the cost of production. The places chosen for the study were Pulau Pinang Kuala Terengganu and Johor Bharu. Long bean farms in Pulau Pinang and Johor Bharu showed profits throughout the whole period although not without fluctuations. Johor Bharu showed more months with profits than the other two places. Cucumber farming was less profitable than long bean farming. Profits of cucumber farms in Kuala Terengganu were more stable in 1985 and 1986 while profits of cucumber farms in Pulau Pinang were higher than that in the other places in 1987.
