Abstract
Surveys on the numbers and types of spores of vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal (VAM) fungi were carried out in some representative problems soils of Malaysia. Spore numbers and types were greatly influenced by soil types. The highest spore count was obtained from organic soils under oil palm with the majority being Glomus species. The clayey Bungor soil under cocoa supported mainly Gigaspora species while almost equal proportions of Acaulospora Glomus and Gigaspora species were found in the sandy tin tailing.
