Abstract
United Plantation's executive vice-chairman Datuk Seri Borge Bek-Nielsen is decidedly bullish about his estates pointing to the low stock levels of palm oil. But his company hasn't exactly been making waves among investors. While analysts are intrigued by the 'reverse Malaysianisation' of UP's shareholding - it appears to have reverted to foreign hands after having been 'bought home' in the early 1980s - they are not too excited by its dependence on one commodity oil palm. Still Malaysian Business finds that the Palm Oil King's reputation as a savvy traderm and his devotion to his estates and employees could work well to UP's advantage.
