Abstract

Aflatoxin B-1 aflatoxin G-1 benzidine dimethylnitrosamine ethylmethanesulfonate methymethanesulfonate methylcholanthrene metronidazole and safrole induced the formation of micronucleated polychromatic erythrocytes in bone marrow cells of experimental mice. This indicates the genotoxicity of these chemical substances since micronuclei formation is a consequence of fragmentation of the chromatin material of bone marrow cells. When thiamin riboflavin nioacin pyridoxine panthothenic acid folic acid biotin and vitamin B-12 were administered simultaneously with each mutagen the formation of micronucleated polychromatic erythrocytes was reduced. Thus the B vitamin exhibited antigenotoxic activities by niacin against methocholanthrene and metronidazole ethylmethanesulfonate and methylmethanesulfonate pantothenic acid against safrole and riboflavin against dimethylnitrosamine.
