Abstract

Microbial production of L-methionine by Corynebacterium glutamicum ATCC21608 was assessed in batch fermentations using various concentrations and sources of sugar and nitrogen and various volume ratios of medium/fermenter ages of inoculum inoculation rates and fermentation time. The sources of sugar were sugarcane juice molasses banana cassava and coconut water. Urea ammonium sulphate ammonium nitrate ammonium phosphate and sodium nitrate were used as nitrogen sources. A yield of 3.6 g methionine/litre was obtained in 96 h using a medium containing molasses and coconut water supplemented with (NH )SO as the nitrogen sources.
