Abstract

Trichogramma evanescens was introduced to the Philippines in 1982 for the control of Ostrinia furnacalis. However mass-production and field releases were intensified only in 1988. In each of four major corn growing regions of the Philippines namely Cagayan Valley Bukidnon Davao and Sultan Kudarat T. evanescens was released in three observation fields. Monitoring of parasitism in the release sites and neighbouring field throughout the two following cropping seasons showed that parasitization up to 100 percent could be obtained during silking stage of corn without further releases. Parasitism by T. evanescens in recovery fields was generally low at onset of corn borer oviposition during the whole stage of corn. However it rapidly built up to reach an average of more than 60 percent parasitism at the pollen shedding stage
