Abstract

White root disease caused by Rigidoporus lignosus is an important disease of rubber especially in immature stage. Studies carried out showed that soil drenching of hexaconazole (Anvil 5SC) at 0.5 g a.i. per plant in 21 of water onto one-year-old rubber plants followed by a repeat application four months later was effective in controlling the disease. On two to three-year-old plants hexaconazole at 1g a.i. per plant was effective. Hexaconazole was found to exhibit both protectant and eradicant activities. On crop safety hexaconazole tested up to 1g a.i. per plant in polybag did not show any phytotoxic effect on six-month-old seedlings in the nursery. Cost analysis of the treatments showed that hexaconazole was up to 50 per cent cheaper than the estate standard propiconazole (Tilt 250EC). Chemical cost for two drenching applications of hexaconazole onto one-year-old and two to three-year old plants was RM 1.50 and RM 3.00 per plant respectively
