Abstract
A preliminary ichthyofauna survey of montane and lowland streams of Bukit Rengit Krau Game Reserve reveals that the area is relatively diverse with fish life. Fifty-four species of fish were caught during the study including four specimens of Esomus malayensis; this is the first reliable information on the presence of Esomus in Peninsular Malaysia. Several rare species such as Homalopotera tweediei Glyptothoprax aff. platypogonoides and Vaillantella maassi are also present in the area
