Abstract
Tropical rain forests constitute only 34.1 percent of the global forests. The focus of global forest is now on tropical rain forests that are located in developing countries. Mankind has been destroying forests since the advent of agriculture. The assault on the temperate forests of North and South America and Australiasia during the seventeenth to the nineteenth centuries which followed on European expansion has been followed today by assault on tropical rain forest. Indonesia sets aside US300 million annually for reforestation of 300 000 ha. This allocation is grossly inadequate. There is the need for close cooperation from developed countries to finance reforestation programmes
