Abstract
Techniques for the identification of the males of the common bagworms moths on oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) namely Metisa plana Walker Pteroma pendula Joannis Mahasena corbetti Tams and Brachycyttarus griseus Joannis are described. Keys for the identification of these moths (based on scales and venation of wings genital structure and adult morphology) are provided. A formal checklist of all species of bagworm found in South East Asia is provided as an appendix. Host plant records of these bagworms compiled from the collections of The Natural History Museum (BMNH) in London and some Malaysian records supplemented from Yunus and Ho (1980) are tabulated and discussed. These data provide information on host ranges and possible alternative hosts on reservoirs for oil palm bagworms
