Abstract

The tropical rain forest constitutes a small area of the earth but supports a major constituent of biological diversity. Insects are a major component of biodiversity but are often ignored and not taken seriously for conservation. This paper presents a diversity profile of the leaf beetle of the subfamily Galerucinae. Danum Valley in Sabah (Malaysia) supports 176 species of Galerucinae beetles which is more than twice the number listed in Wilcox's catalogue for the island of Borneo. The Galerucinae from Danum Valley are highly diverse and abundant
