Abstract
Mammal fauna surveys along the Sungai Singgor in Temengor Lake in the vicinity of Sungei Halong and Kampong Tekam between October 1993 and October 1994 identified 101 species of mammals comprising 10 orders and 28 families. This represented 49.0 percent of the 206 mammals recorded in Peninsular Malaysia. Of these 39.6 percent were bats belonging to 6 families. Significant among the findings was the water shrew (Chimarrogale himalayica) among the terrestrial species and new and interesting records of bats by Francis (1995a 1995b). Other significant observations include the presence of 8 out of the 11 large mammal species and 8 of the 10 primates of Peninsular Malaysia. This signifies the importance of the area for the conservation of mammal species
