Abstract

The age of trees in tropical rainforests where there are no annual dry seasons cannot be obtained by counting annual growth rings because such rings do not develop. However the decay of wood in the humid tropics appears to be related to time and this relationship may provide a method for estimating the age of trees that have hollow (decayed) cores.
