Abstract
Knowledge of wood properties is essential to enable optimal use of tropical forest timber species and to ensure appropriate selection of species for plantation projects. This paper outlines a basic procedure for evaluating wood and processing properties of timber species. Tests are largely in accordance with international standards. Of particular interest is the sampling procedure and the way the various tests are integrated to yield practical information.
