Abstract

The activity o f ED TA-inhibited glutamate dehydrogenase from a crude seed extract of Lupinus angustifolius could be partially or fully restored by the addition o f divalent cations to the incubation mixture. M n2 and Ca2 gave the highest stimulations o f 6 7 and 66 o f the control respectively; follow ed by Z n 2 (59) Co2 (55) Mg2 (53) and Cu2 (49). The M n-deficient enzym e was more sensitive to manganese and more stim ulated at a lower manganese concentration than the M n-sufficient enzym e. However M n-deficient enzym e achieved a m axim um activity o f 917c at lA rnM M n2 while M n-sufficient enzym e achieved a m axim um activity o f 105 o f control at 2.0mM.
