Abstract
About 37 of the inboard powered fishing boats in West Malaysia fall within the power range of 20-40hp and the Japanese engines account for about 57. The main reasons for the popularity of Japanese engines are attributed to ready availability of spare parts efficient back up service and competitive prices. Technically the European and American engines are comparable if not better than their Japanese counterparts.
