Abstract

Seeds derived from hand-pollination using Hevea pollen stored in liquid nitrogen for three and seven weeks were germinated. Leaves from the seedlings together with those of their parents were analysed for electrophoretic variation at six isozyme loci. The genotypes of the parents and progenies were found to be consistent with expected Mendelian allele segregation. These results represent the first demonstration of the full functionality of stored pollen in Hevea reproductive biology and verify that stored pollen can be successfully used for hand-pollination.
