Abstract

The relative performance between materials derived from conventional cuttings and buddings of three genotypes in an existing experiment is examined in this paper. Results of the study indicated that 1) there was no significant superiority of cuttings over buddings with reference to yield and girth; 2) cuttings were not necessarily more uniform than buddings and 3) both cuttings and buddings exhibited a common characteristics of a decline in yield as tapping approached the ground. As the cuttings studied were derived from conventional method which gave rise to adventitious root system the information obtained may not be applicable to those from micro-cuttings seedling cuttings and other tissue culture plants which had their own tap-root system. Thus a similar nature of experiment should be interesting to verify the validity of the above suggestions.
