Abstract

The recently developed NMR method of rubber blend analysis has been applied to gum vulcanisate blends of natural rubber (NR) and cis-polybutadiene (BR). Two cure systems have been studied peroxide and accelerated-sulphur. Although the distribution of crosslinks between the two phases of the blends was different for the two cure systems studied in neither case was there any significant diffusion of cross-linking agent apparent both phases achieving similar crosslink levels to those expected in single polymer vulcanisates of equivalent curative loading.
