Abstract

The study tested evaluated and compared six locally manufactured rice hull fired furnaces used for grain drying. Three furnace tests were done to compare these six (6) furnaces in terms of burning efficiency and operating characteristics. Three grain drying tests were conducted to compare the heat utilization and drying system efficiency of the rice hull fed dryers. Economic analysis compared the economic viability of the rice hull fed dryers. All furnaces tested need modification and improvements especially on materials of construction to lengthen durability and minimize heat losses. Another modification need is in the grate system design for better burning of fuel
