Abstract

Among the varieties screened IR36 was highly resistant while IR46 IR29 IR42 IR43 IR38 and IR5853 were highly susceptible to S. zeamais. IR32 was highly resistant while IR4570 was highly susceptible to T. castaneum. Antibiosis and feeding preference were responsible for the varietal resistance to the test insects. Survival was low on resistant varieties. IR29 was highly preferred for feeding while IR5853 least preferred by the weevil. IR5 and IR44 were the most and least preferred by the red flour beetle respectively. No significant correlation was obtained between index of susceptibility and chemical properties of the grains
