Abstract

This is a continuation of the study aimed at determining the numbers of different species of wild-life and their distribution in various habitats of Peninsular Malaysia. This report covers Taman Negara' Pahang and Kenyir Dam Terengganu. Bird ringing and observation were carried out in: Kuala Selangor Templer Park Fraser's Hill Kuala Lompat Pantai Rasa Sayang Jenderak Cameron Highland Tenggaroh Johor and Rantau Panjang Kelang. The study carried out took about 84 actual working days. The selected areas consisted of six types of forest:-Mangrove Lowland Dipterocarp Hill Dipterocarp Upper Dipterocarp Montane Oak and Montane Ericaceous. The number of mammal species recorded were: Taman Negara (42) and Kenyir Dam (27) which in the case of bird species Taman Negara (173) Kenyir Dam (116) Kuala Selangor (53) Templer Park (61) Fraser's Hill (72) Kuala Lompat (84) Pantai Rasa Sayang (26) Janderak (73) and Cameron Highland (68). The total number of mammal species recorded in all areas was 42 while 293 bird species were recorded. The total number of bird caught ringed and recaptured were 1316 and 126 respectively involving 134 species.
