Abstract

This survey is a continuation of work which commenced in January 1983. A total of 41 water monitor lizards were caught and studied in 1983. During the present survey a total of 40 water monitor lizards were caught tagged and released in order to determine growth rate. The results showed that there was an accelerated rate of growth from the time the lizard emerged from the egg till the animal was 160 cm in length. The growth rate declined when it was 200 cm in length. This study also established that the home range of the monitor lizards is in a limited area of 200 square meters.
