Abstract

An outbreak of locomotor disorders in suckling piggery with a morbidity rate of 10 and a case fatality rate of 70 was shown to be due to sciatic nerve injury. Gross and microscopic post mortem findings confirmed the clinical diagnosis of sciatic nerve paralysis. Poor technique of administering iron injections intramuscularly was believed to be responsible as new cases ceased following the adoption of another site for intramuscular injection.
