Abstract

Forty seven lichen specimens were collected from Gunung Jerai during a trip on 7-8 December 1996. Seven specimens were identified to species level and they are Usnea flexilis, Usnea baiyleyi, Ramalina pacifica, Parmotrema mellissii, Teloschistes flavicans, Heterodermia flabellata and Cladia aggregata. Chemical components of two of the lichens, H. flabellata and C. aggregata were studied. H. flabellata revealed the presence of atranorin (1) and zeorin (2) whilst C. aggregata revealed the presence of barbatic acid (3) and 4-O-demethylbarbatic acid (4).
