Abstract

Field observations and mist netting on the understorey bird species of Gunung Jerai Permanent Forest Reserve was conducted from June 2002 until February 2003. The field technique for generating species inventory involves mist-netting and observation methods. Each captured individual was inspected for species identification besides other information such as sex and age. This survey recorded a total of 54 bird species from 20 families. Family Timaliidae (babblers), Pycnonotidae (bulbuls), and Nectariniidae (spiderhunters and sunbirds) were among the families which had the most number of species recorded. Forty-six bird species were mist-netted with 94 birds captured from 16 families.
