Abstract
Lactococcus lactis is by far the most extensively studied lactic acid bacterium and an ideal model organism for metabolic engineering strategies. The dairy starter bacterium L. lactis has the potential to synthesise both folate vitamin B11 and riboflavin vitamin B2. L. lactis strains M4 and M12 are lactic acid bacteria that have been locally isolated from Malaysia. In order to understand the regulation and protein expression in these bacteria under certain conditions the proteome analysis of L. lactis for these strains was performed. Folate concentration was determined by using the microbiological assay while the protein profile was determined by using liquid chromatography mass spectrometry LCMS. The expression of folate proteins expressed by the L. lactis strains in two different conditions are described in this study.
