Abstract

The study was carried out to compare the gene expression pattern between Nipah virus NiV infected cells and uninfected cells using DNA microarray technology. MCF-7 cells human metastatic mammary carcinoma cell line were chosen as a host cell for NiV infection. The infection of NiV was successful as the cytophatic effect CPE was observed with the formation of ;multinucleated; giant cells in the infected cell line. Total RNA was isolated from treated and normal MCF-7 cells at 60 hours post infection when the CPE was 80 completed. Microarray analysis was then performed using the total RNA from both cells. The differential expression analysis results showed that 180 genes were down-regulated and 490 genes were up-regulated during NiV infection of MCF-7.
