Abstract

Water and plankton samples were observed qualified and quantified. In general dominant group of phytoplankton was diatom Bacillariophyceae in the phylum Ochrophytae with chain-form types present in all samples. A total of 21 genera of diatoms six genera of dinoflagellates and other zooplankton were observed in the samples. High diatom abundances were recorded for Chaetoceros spp. Lauderia spp. and Eucampia spp. at all sites. Skeletonema sp. was observed more during high tide in March 2005. The diatoms represented more than 90 of the total composition with Chaetoceros spp. making up 30-45 54-66 and average of 20 of the total diatom composition for January February and March 2005 respectively. The dinoflagellates and zooplankton contributed 1-4 and 1-2 of the total plankton composition.
