Landings of small pelagic fish from Kedah waters were analyzed for impacts of the tsunami of 26 December 2004. Small pelagic fish such as short mackerel Rastrelliger brachysoma and anchovy Stolephorus sp. are among the important species in the purse seine fishery of Kedah. Any impact on the recruitment of these species would affect the livelihood of many fishers who depend on this fishery. A comparative analysis on the catch rates of the small pelagic species before and after the tsunami however showed no significant difference.

Abstract
