Abstract
Environmental awareness over the last two decades has progressively shifted the thinking framework of geoscientists. Some researchers have critically analyzed conventional methodologies pertaining to environmental issues, and as a result from such lateral assessment, the natural environment has become the focal point in many studies. This work in particular started from the early initiative that linked the geological environment with tourism. It has progressed over the years with new ideas towards the creation of a new class natural resource for deep level regional planning and tourism development. Geoasset has been introduced as a new class natural resource. It is a distinctive natural asset of the earth that possesses the characteristics of a non-extractive natural resource. The unique nature of geoasset is that, as a class of natural resources, it also functions as natural investment capital for long-term sustainable tourism development.
