Abstract

A rigorous model for geocoding of Spaceborne SAR Imagery is described. The model is based on actual physical parameters in the SAR signal acquisition and processing geometry and spacecraft orbital geometry. The combined model has a total of 13 parameters. The parameters can usually be computed with reasonably high accuracy from the ephemeris information given in the image leader file. geocoding using only the empheris information can give a relative accuracy of about 60 m. The parameters of the model can further be refined with ground control points. Because of high correlation between certain parameters only 7 parameters need to be refined. Geocoding with parameters refined by ground control points give an accuracy of less than a pixel.
