Abstract

The Digital Video Geographic DVG TM is a heicopter borne laser and video system. The helicopter is positioned by use of GPS x y z t while the laser profile measures the distance from the helicopter to the ground. The laser has the ability to penetrate minute gaps in the jungle foliage and in doing so can provide very accurate profiles of both tree top and ground levels to build a Digital Terrain Model DTM for contouring. The vertical video imagery can later be converted digitally in a P.C computer for further analysis this enables the operator to digitise terrain features and give them attributes to produce maps and plans or collect digital data for input into Geographical Information System GIS. If visual flying is noy possible the Real Time Differntial GPS RTDGPS offers navigation capabilities and post processing accuracies desingned to meet most engineering requirements. The system has proven to be fast accurate and cost effective and has successfully completed several route survey and inventory projects in some of the most adverse terrain in the world which includes North and South America Africa the Middle East South East Asia and Australasia.
