Abstract

Microwave technology was employed to improve the process of preparing polyglycerol and oleylamide. The preparation processes involve heating the respective reactants for each targeted products in a microwave reactor, in which the desired products were selectively formed by judicious choice of catalyst. The advantage of using microwave technology in the processes become evident when the reaction time for both processes was reduced to minutes as opposed to hours using conventional methods. The crude reaction products for each process were subjected to purification and then were characterised with common methods such as HPLC, FTIR, CHN and NMR. The properties of purified products were compared to respective commercial products and they exhibit similar qualities if not better.
