Abstract

Three promising carambola hybrids B1002-63 B1711-24 and B0217-105 were evaluated in MARDI Station Kluang. Their perfomance was compared to the local commercial clone B10 in terms of yield fruit quality and oxalic acid content. The trial uses Randomised Complete Block Design RCBD with five replicates and six plants per plot. Data for three years showed that the hybrid B1002-63 has a mean yield of 19.3 kg per tree/year with a TSS value of 10-13 brix comparable to the commercial clone B10 21.5 kg/tree/year and 10-13 brix. Hybrid B1711-24 has high TSS values of between 10-13 brix but the yield was lower at 15.4kg per tree/year. The least performing hybrid was B0217-105 which has both low yield 13.4 kg and low TSS value 9.7 brix. As for oxalic acid content all three by hybrids showed values lower than the commercial clone B10.
