Abstract
The flower of Michelia alba was categorized into eleven stages according to the stage of development. Observation was done in terms of duration of every stages of floral development S1-S11. Results indicated that the M.alba flowers took around 41-44 days to develop from the smallest buds S1 -2mm to full bloom flower S11. The green buds of stage 1 to stage 4 gradually elongated swelled and became yellowish S5 after 25-27 days. The buds started blooming when they reached stage 8. The flowers reached full bloom stage S10 when all the whorls of petals opened exposing their ovary. During this stage stigma became sticky and receptive and stamens flared out from the centre. The results also revealed that stage 10 full bloom last approximately 2 days before stamens turned brown and petals begin to wilt and fall.
