Abstract

The purpose of this study are to isolate antibiotic-producing bacteria from clay soil; to characterize and identify the bacteria through their morphology colony and biochemical activities and to detect antibiotic resistance produced by isolated bacteria with commercial antibiotic towards the testing of standardized bacteria. Activities carried out in this study include soil sampling growing and isolating of the bacteria and also screening and characterization of isolated bacteria through disk diffusion plugs and antagonist method. Identification of bacteria follows the BBL Identification Kit procedure. Five different types of bacteria are identified as having antibiotic potential and those are Brevibacillus brevis Bacillus cereus Corynebacterium aquaticum Streptococcus uberis and Agrobacterium tumefacien. These bacteria may be useful for future researches invoving antibiotic classifying and its related fields.
