Abstract

Safed Musli Chlorophytum borivilianum is sold worldwide with a total demand of 50 000mt y-1; however the global supply is limited to 5 000 mt y-1. Tubers of Safed Musli SMcontain saponin compound which can induces sexual desire and widely used in Ayurveda medicines. A field and glasshouse/laboratory was conducted at FELDA Herbal Farm Lanchang Pahang and UPM respectively. The objectives of this study were to determine the effects of the rhizobacteria and vermicompost earthworms on i root development and tuber yield ii saponin concentration and content in SM. The field and glasshouse study will be laid out in RCBD with 5 replications 8 treatments single or mixed treatments with inorganic-N uninoculated UPMB-10 UPMB-13 and vermicompost. The laboratory study will be done to isolate phytohormone-producing rhizobacteria eg. IAA for SM roots using HPLC and andquot;N techniques will be used to determine N2 fixation by the rhizobacteria.
