Abstract
We applied Fourier transform infrared FT-IR and two dimensional 20 IR correlation spectroscopy on Melastoma malabthricum samples collected from Stesyen penyelidikan Luar Maran Pahang Bukit Rotan Kuala Selangor Selangor Parit Sibor Johor Gunung Ulu Kali Genting Highland Pahang Gunung Brinchang Cameron Highland Pahang and Lesong Forest Reserve Rompin Pahang. The results of the conventionallR spectroscopy showed limited differences but the second derivative IR spectra amplify the differences amongst M. malabathricum from the six locations. The 10-IR spectra of M. malabathricum were then grouped by using exploratory data analysis EOA. Furthermore in the 20-IR correlation spectroscopic analysis the spectral resolution of 20-IR spectra under thermal perturbation was greatly enhanced. The comparison of 20-IR correlation spectra based on the positions and intensities of auto-peaks and cross-peaks as the third step of differentiation revealed more differences among the samples. The visual and colourful 20-IR spectra further provide dynamic structural information of chemical components in the samples. Excellent macroscopic fingerprints therefor can be obtained rapidly without going through sample extraction.
