Abstract

By taking the near-natural forest constructed in Pudong New Area of Shanghai in 2000 as research object dynamics of the near-natural forest in past ten years was studied with application of tracking investigation on species composition of communities plant density plant height DBH and soil nutrient. After ten years the forests grow well. Species of plants basically remain unchanged but there are with a small amount of invasive species. However due to the lack of shade the mortality of evergreen tree species such as Castanopsis sclerophylla and Machilus thunbergii were high at the first stage of construction. While Ligustrum lucidum and Liquidambar formosana showed a rapid growth with low mortality after gradually dominating the upper stratum deciduous broadleaved species gradually found their feet and showed up a more stable growth with soil fertility rising more steadily than that in the early planting period. Based on the problems we encounted a planting model the bi-synusia model of deciduous and evergreen trees of uneven aged are recommended as they will serve a guide and reference role in building near-natural urban forests.
