Abstract
This study evaluates the antioxidant activity antifungal activity and the total phenolic compound of selected commercial Malaysian timbers. The antioxidant activity was carried out using the 1 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl DPPH assay and total phenol content using the Folin-Ciocalteu method. Evaluation for antifungal activity was done using Gloeophyllum trabeum brown rot. The selected Malaysian timbers studied include kelat jambu air kelat gelam kelat merah kulim penarahan arang terap nasi kasai daun besar nyatoh tembaga kuning rhu neem and ramin melawis. Kelat jambu air bark has the highest antioxidant activity with EC50 value 25 ug/ml while the highest total phenolic compound is neem bark with value of 59.96. The antifungal activity using Gloeophyllum trabeum showed a clear inhibition zone on nyatoh tembaga kuning heartwood neem heartwood rhu inner and kasai daun besar heartwood.
