Abstract

Five lignocellulose degrading thermophilic bacterium were isolated from a hot spring and Palm Oil Mill in Sabah using direct and enrichment technique at 40C. Five isolated were capable of growth at 40C to 70C. Three strains were gram positive cocci and two were gram positive rods. These bacteria degraded lignin in 7 days. This study shows that these five strains may have potentials to enhance biocomposting of oil palm empty fruit bunches.
