Abstract

Two cultivars of pineapple Mauritius for fresh fruit consumption and Gandul for camringljuice were tested on acid sulphate soil in Kuala Linggi Malacca Malaysia with average pyrite depth of 30 cm. Standard production methods were used without any amelioration of soil pH which averaged about 3.5 . Fruit yield and quality obtained at different stand densities and planting patterns were discussed Results indicated that pineapple production on acid sulphate soils is viable both cultivars are suitable with the Mauritius cultivar potentially more profitable for smallholdings.
