Abstract

Experiment was undertaken to compare the storage behaviour of physiologically mature fruits of cvs. Mallika and Amrapali harvested with and without stalk. The fruits were washed with water graded by density gradation method and kept in cardboard cartons using paper lining and stored at ambient conditions and different parameters were studied on 0 6 10 12 and 14th day of storage. Fruits of both the cultivars harvested without stalk released the latex at the point of detachment of stalk which caused dull appearance of fruits in the storage. There was a gradual reduction in Vitamin ;e; and acidity during storage but with a slower rate in fruits harvested with stalk. Spoilage was mainly due to Diplodia natalensis and loss due to it was more in fruits harvested without stalk. Firmness and organoleptic quality retained for longer period in fruits harvested with stalk than those harvested without stalk in both the cultivars.
