Abstract

The technfque of softwood grafting was found to be simpl e and rapid canpared to other grafting methods. It is gaining importance for large scale multiplication of elite clones of newly released varieties of fruit plants. To adopt the softwood grafting in S8Xta for large scale propagation a study vas initiated to standardize the softwood grafting technique In sapota cuI tivar ;Kal1patti; usfng pot grown khirni Mmllkara hexandra Roxb Ulb. seedlings as root stocks. The khirni seedling rootstocks havl more than 30 an hefght recorded the highest graft success canpared to less than 30 an height root stocks. ftmong df fferent IJDIlths of graftfng grafts prepared during June IOOr\th recorded the JIBXiJIllIll graft success and the least graft success was during Q::tober rmnth of grafting. HJwever the grafts prepared durfng July roonth also resul ted in better growth than the grafts prepared during other IJDIlths. Forced scfons msu ted In better sprouting and graft success than un-forced scions.
