Abstract
The paper discusses the class of insurance coverage available in relation to residential buildings which includes Fire, Houseowner's and Householder's policies as governed by the Malaysian Fire Tariff. The paper also discusses the Town and Construction classifications. Based on properties of material used, the tariff classified the construction of building into four classes, namely, Class la, Class lb, Class 2 and Class 3. Timber houses are classified as Class 3 but if the walls are constructed using a mixture of brick and timber (not more than 50% of total wall area is timber) the houses are classified as Class 2.
