Abstract

Copper Cu are increasingly being released into the environment from industrial and livestock wastes and other human activities. Recycling of excess heavy metals such as Cu by specific plants with hyperaccumulation ability is a sound method of environment management. Canan Cyathula and Kenaf plants were tested for their ability to accumulate Cu in this study. Results showed that the three plants tested were capable of surviving in high Cu concentration growth solution. Irrespective of plant species roots 408 to 541ppm had higher Cu concentration than stems 13.23 to 55.91ppm and leaves 12.57 to 40.47ppm except for Kenaf stems 410.07ppm grown in high Cu concentration solution. However based on per plant basis Canan accumulated the most Cu followed by Kenaf and Cyathula.
