Abstract

The use of biodiesel is rapidly expanding around the world making it imperative to fully understand the impacts ofbiodiesel on the diesel combustion process pollutant formation and exhaust after treatment. Biodiesel is an alternative fuel that is cleaner than petrodiesel. Biodiesel can be used directly as fuel for a diesel engine without having to modify the engine system. It has the major advantages of having high biodegradability excellent lubricity and no sulfur content. Compared to conventional diesel fuel the use of biodiesel is generally found to reduce emissions of hydrocarbons HC carbon monoxide CO and particulate matter PM; but to increase oxides of nitrogen NOx emissions. This paper collects and analyse the scientific explanation about diesel engine emissions when using biodiesel fuels as an opposed to conventional diesel fuels. Since the basis for comparison is to reduce the emission engine the main section is dedicated to the effect of biodiesel fuel on engine emissions are compared paying special attention to the most concerning emissions nitric oxides and particulate matter. In this case the highest consensus was found in the sharp reduction in particulate emissions. The experimental results disclose the effect of these parameters on performance and exhaust nitric oxide carbon monoxide unburned hydrocarbon emissions and particulate matter. The acceptance of emissivity from DDF system is based on ULEV SULEV Euro IV and Euro V standard.
